Calcite is a carbonate mineral, the most stable polymorph of Calcium Carbonate. The word Calcite comes from the Greek word "Chalix", meaning lime. It is one of the world's most common minerals and it is estimated that 4% of the world's weight is Calcite.


Calcite is found in a number of places: Germany, the UK, India, the USA, Mexico, Iceland and Turkey. It is widely used in the manufacture of paper, paint, plastic, cement, plaster, adhesives, ceramics and certain types of food.
