Ferroalloys

The term ‘ferroalloy’ refers to various alloys of iron with a high proportion of one or more other element, for example manganese, silicon, chromium or vanadium. The largest consumer of ferroalloys is the steelmaking industry where it is used as a raw material in the production of ferrous metals such as stainless steel, carbon steel and mild steel.

We deal with a number of ferroalloy manufacturers and suppliers mainly in China and India.  Ferroalloys for sale include boron, chromium, manganese, molybdenum, phosphorous silicon, titanium and vanadium.

World production in 2003 of the bulk ferroalloys—chromium, manganese, and silicon—was estimated to be 19.9 million metric tonnes (Mt), an 11% increase compared with the revised figure for 2002. Production of all ferroalloys increased to 27.6 million metric tonnes in 2005 from 19.2million metric tonnes in 2000.

China now produces over 13million tonnes per year of ferroalloys and is the world's largest producer.

The period up to the end of the third quarter of 2008 saw prices in the ferroalloy market increase dramatically in the face of a surge in demand from stainless steel manufacturers and suppliers. However, the last quarter of 2008 has seen a dramatic drop in ferroalloy prices  as the world entered into a period of economic downturn.
