Graphite
There are three principal types of natural graphite: flake graphite occurs as isolated, flat, plate-like particles with hexagonal edges if unbroken and when broken the edges can be angular or irregular. Amorphous graphite – or very fine flake graphite as it sometimes known - occurs as fine particles and is the result of thermal metamorphism of coal. . Lump graphite - or vein graphite - occurs in fissure veins or fractures and appears as an inter-growth of fibrous or acicular crystalline aggregates. It is hydrothermal in origin.
