Ukraine raised coal production approximately 3.5 per cent year-on-year from January to November 2008 to 71.456 million tonnes, according to the country's Coal Ministry.

Coking coal production fell 4.4 percent to just over 24.971 million tonnes, but steam coal rose 8.4 percent to 46.485 million tonnes. In November itself coal production fell by 3.8 per cent year-on-year to 3.764 million tonnes but while steam coal production grew 6.9 percent to 2.998 million tonnes coking coal production fell sharply by 8.6 percent to 765,765 tonnes.

In 2007 coal production in Ukraine fell 6 per cent to 75.437 million tonnes for the year, including 28.396 million tonnes of coking coal, down 5.8 percent, and 47.041 million tonnes of steam coal, down 6.1 percent.
